The annual CCHS retreat will be held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Lisa Lynne, Harpist, will be the workshop presenter.

The workshops will be as follows:

Opportunities for Therapeutic harp music

A unique slideshow presentation on the history of “Harps for Hearts” a year program that has been successful in placing harps in hospitals and creating programs. We will learn some musical approaches  for playing in Therapeutic environments, and choosing music for every situation. We will share ideas and experiences in playing for hospitals or hospices, and look at the current climate and opportunities for training and tips for approaching facilities you’d like to play for.

Composing and playing by ear

We will learn how you can free yourself from the written page, and understand chord progressions and keys that will always work for improvisation. We will learn how to read and write a simple chord chart, transpose a tune on the spot, communicate with other musicians and take a solo in any key. We will go through a series of my favorite chord progressions that are friendly to improvisation that you will find useful in many situations.

Perform with Confidence / Getting your music out out there.

We all have experienced various levels of stage fright. We will share stories and tips for overcoming those butterflies and shaky hands when playing for others. This is an open forum where we can discuss many aspects of the harping business. Promoting your music, getting gigs, creating visuals, writing a press release, websites, blogging, and navigating social networks. Learn what it takes to share your music in unique venues you might have never thought of. Real world advice on how you can think outside the box and maximize your opportunities. You will come away with many new ideas on how to get involved in your community and expand your musical horizons.
